Barack Booze O-rama

It seems like the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States on Tuesday has suddenly become a reason to get sloshed. How ironic then that the new president replaces a reformed drunk. But in these times, any excuse to booze up is good enough for us.

In honor of the historic occasion, many DC bars already got permission to stay open 2 extra hours and Maryland bars also got an extended hour. Meanwhile in NYC, email inboxes have been flooded with inauguration day promotions and websites are falling all over themselves to provide you with spots to celebrate history.

Here are just a handful of places with inauguration day specials:
Thom Bar at 60 Thompson will have a happy hour from 5pm to 10pm - $5 to $8 specialty cocktails, beer and wine.

d.b.a. will be serving the infamous sold-out Obama beer from Red Hook Ales. $7 for a small glass.

Time Out has a list of various options, mainly larger events, but this is intriguing - a "Good-bye Bush Bash" at Latitude Bar & Grill (783 8th Avenue). Enjoy Bush-themed drinks and remember the best (or worst) of his many misadventures with the English language on the wall o' quotes. From 6pm, with the promise of drunken liberals hitting Times Square at 10pm.

Metromix, meanwhile, highlights more choices. Hill Country (30 W. 26th) is offering a "Presidential Platter" including brisket, ribs and casserole for $25 plus drink specials. A big screen TV will show highlights.

Village Pourhouse (64 Third Avenue) will have a complimentary champagne toast after the swearing in, which will be broadcast on their dozens of hi-def screens.

If you are a diehard liberal, then the Living Liberally NYC Inaugural Ball at Rush (6th Ave at 16th Street) is for you. Buy tickets online - $20 gets you admission plus a free drink ticket. Sunday Jan 18, 8pm.

Lastly, Metromix points out a few Fort Greene, Brooklyn options. The General Greene (229 DeKalb Ave) will have a luau! $20.09 gets you suckling pig, sweet potato, grilled pineapple and coconut-banana cream pie. Nearby Chez Oskar (211 DeKalb Ave) has $5 drinks like Rotten Republicans and the Yes-we-can-ohitos.
